Scott Anstett: Painted Polaroids
My interest in figurative and portrait work has always gravitated towards informal poses with unique articulation and a sense of story or action. The unique format of the Polaroid lends itself to these qualities. It is one of the most recognizable formats and still one of the most popular types of photography today despite the proliferation of cell phones. The idea behind the Polaroid was that you could share “moments” almost instantaneously. The often overly bright flash and tad-bit-too-slow shutter speed create a spontaneous and voyeuristic quality, a look into a private or unscripted act.
